Naevus International (NI) is a new cross-disciplinary initiative which aims to disseminate information on Congenital Melanocytic Naevi (CMN) to a global audience of patients, families, support groups, psychologists, social teams, doctors and scientists. This first annual conference will bring together key members of these groups, to present the latest information about CMN, and to exchange ideas on the best way to achieve the aims of NI. Interaction between audience and the leaders team will be an important part of the day to get the best plans for NI going forward.
As NI is a new multi-disciplinary initiative, of the sort that has never previously been attempted for CMN, we will spend this first conference setting out our aims, the aims of the component teams, and how we will achieve those aims over the coming year. For this we would be very keen to get input from attendees, so that together we can make NI something which the members want and can use. At the conference there will therefore be presentations from each of the team leaders (see here), and each of those will have an invited guest speaker to illustrate the problems to be tackled, or the method by which they will be tackled. There will be an hour-long session of Q&A, so that we can have input from all attendees.
In future years, once the framework for NI is established, we very much hope to have a scientific conference, for presentation of research findings. This will need more time, more space, and more fundraising.
This meeting is open to anyone interested in CMN. Registration is free, but there will be a charge for refreshments on the day.
